Ever wonder what your website “looks” like to a person who is blind or low vision? As much as visual aesthetics are important to the website experience, sound is equally as important. Screen reader technology provides auditory access to individuals who experience blindness or low vision. Alongside a native screen reader user, attendees will experience hands-on demonstrations with the latest built-in and open source screen reader technology (Voiceover on Mac OS systems and NVDA on Windows machines). Join us in learning the basics of how to use this technology, which will aid in running basic tests during website development. Periodically running these tests in various development stages aids in avoiding accessibility bumps and bruises. Attendees are encouraged to Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) to play along!
